Food in hotels in Cyprus

Cyprus how-choose-hotel
Don’t want to cook on holiday and prefer a buffet? Or do you want to spend the whole day outside the hotel and get acquainted with the local cuisine in restaurants? Food is one of the main nuances when choosing a room.

  • RO (room only) – the price includes only accommodation. Suitable for tourists who plan to spend the whole day on the beach or traveling around the island and eat in restaurants. If you want to cook yourself, choose resorts where there are shops and markets near the hotels
  • BB (bed & breakfast) – the price includes a buffet breakfast. A convenient option for those who don’t want to spend time cooking in the morning and prefer, after breakfast, to go to the beach or on excursions. Be sure to check if there are supermarkets or shops near the hotel
  • HB (half board) – half board or breakfast and dinner. Ideal for those who plan to spend the whole day on the beach or on excursions, but return to the hotel in the evening. During the day you can have a snack in a cafe on the beach or buy ready-made food in a supermarket
  • FB (full board) – full board or three meals a day. It differs from “all inclusive” in that drinks, including alcoholic ones, must be purchased at the bar
  • AI (all inclusive) – “all inclusive” or three meals a day with local drinks included in the price. Convenient for those who are planning a quiet, measured holiday without traveling around the island
  • UAI (ultra all inclusive) – “ultra all inclusive”, in addition to three meals a day, tourists are offered alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks of local and imported production

Advice!
Most hotels in Cyprus offer a BB food system. After breakfast, tourists can head to the beach or on excursions, and throughout the day eat at the many local taverns. And when placing an RO, there is often a small kitchen in the room where you can prepare your own food.

Entertainment in hotels in Cyprus

Cyprus how-choose-hotel
Some people like a calm, measured holiday, while many people love to be active all day.

  • Outdoor swimming pool – suitable for tourists who like to swim and sunbathe all day. During the daytime it is very hot on the beach, the pool is an excellent opportunity to cool off and swim between sea baths
  • The water park is ideal for tourists with children or groups of youth. There is no need to waste time traveling and paying extra for the water park, water slides and pools are always nearby

Advice!
Hotels with a water park have the designation Water Park in their name.

View from a hotel window in Cyprus

Cyprus how-choose-hotel
Do you like to go out to the balcony in the morning and enjoy the seascape with a cup of coffee? Or catch the last rays of the sunset in the evening with a glass of wine? Then pay attention to the options for views from the window.

  • Garden view – a view of the garden, suitable for a relaxing holiday for couples or for families with children
  • Pool view – view of the pool, the noisiest side, suitable for partygoers and tourists without children
  • SV, Sea view – sea view, the most expensive room category
  • SVV, Side Sea view – side sea view
  • Inside view – view of the atrium, small courtyard or interior of the hotel

Advice!
If you will only spend the night at the hotel, choose a room in the i nside view category.

Star rating of hotels in Cyprus

Cyprus how-choose-hotel
Unlike Turkey and Egypt, where even inexpensive three-star hotels can be located on the first line, a different system operates in European Cyprus.

  • 2* – inexpensive hotels far from the beach, offering rooms without meals and a minimum of services: a room with a kitchen and air conditioning and a change of linen
  • 3* – the most popular category within walking distance from the beach, tourists are offered BB meals, the hotel has a restaurant, the rooms have air conditioning and linen change
  • 4* – has everything you need for a comfortable stay: private beach, swimming pool, children’s club with animation, meals according to the system from BB to UAI
  • 5* – expensive luxury hotels on the first line with water parks, AI or UAI meals, SPA centers and 24-hour room service and a private beach with a bar

Advice!
Sometimes 3* hotels receive a 4* category for their convenient location, while 5* hotels are located far from the city, which is not entirely convenient for tourists who want to visit the sights.

Internet in Cyprus hotels

Cyprus how-choose-hotel
For many tourists, it is important to always be in touch. Please note that the hotel has Wi-Fi . In Europe, the Internet is quite expensive compared to Ukraine; not all hotels provide the service we are used to for free.

  • 2* hotels often do not have Wi-Fi coverage
  • 3* hotels provide wireless network access only in the reception and bar areas
  • 4-5* hotels have Wi-Fi coverage throughout the entire territory, including beach bars
