Are you planning to go on holiday to Montenegro with your child? Read our tips and reviews from tourists. We talk about the best resorts, beaches and all-inclusive hotels for children.
The azure sea, good ecology and affordable prices have made Montenegro a popular European destination for families with children. There is no need to torture yourself with English lessons – the local language is quite easy to understand, and many locals speak Russian.
Features of holidays in Montenegro with children
Montenegro can hardly be called a beach country. Sandy beaches are very rare here, and all of them, with the exception of the resorts of the Ulcinj Riviera, are made of imported sand. Natural beaches are mostly rocky or pebble with an uneven bottom, and the sea water is clean but cool. Even on the hottest days, the water temperature rarely rises above +25°C. The warmest water in the Bay of Kotor is +27°C – this is where tourists vacationing in Montenegro with children advise going.
Despite the reigning cult of the child in the country, the selection of baby canned food in stores is not at all rich. The broths and porridges that are familiar to us are not common in public catering establishments. However, there are always fruits and pastries on sale, and pizza and spaghetti with seafood can be ordered in any cafe.
When to go
The second half of summer in Montenegro is characterized by high prices and crowded beaches, so this period is not recommended for family holidays. It is better to go in September, when the sun is not so aggressive, the sea water has already warmed up thoroughly, and there are a lot of ripe fruits on the market.
Some also prefer to vacation in June, but despite the high air temperature of +28°C, the water in the Adriatic Sea warms up reluctantly, and its temperature at the beginning of summer is only +21…+23°C.
The best resorts for families with children
Montenegro is a country with a mountainous landscape; most of the resorts are located on hills, so tiring descents and ascents are inevitable. The pebble and sandy beaches of the Budva Riviera are suitable for families with small children – close to the airport , there is all the entertainment and a well-developed tourist infrastructure.
Budva has a beautiful historical center, but the lively city atmosphere is more suitable for youth recreation. Vacationers with children prefer quiet and peaceful suburbs. For example, Becici , where there are also cafes, restaurants, children’s attractions and a water park, but the holiday is quieter and more affordable.
Inexpensive apartments in Petrovac are often recommended for family holidays – there is a sandy beach with a good entrance to the sea, ancient buildings from the Middle Ages and clean pine air. True, in the middle of summer the local beaches are suspiciously reminiscent of our Black Sea beaches – there are so many people that there is no room for an apple to fall.
Apartments in one of the most popular resorts in Montenegro – the island of Sveti Stefan – are ideal for families with children, but are very ruinous for the wallet. Luxurious beaches are located on both sides of the spit connecting the island to the mainland. One beach is public, the second can only be accessed by guests of the famous complex.
The resorts of the Bay of Kotor also have sand and pebble beaches suitable for family holidays. There is a calm sea here, without waves or strong currents, and the warmest water in all of Montenegro. Tivat has a beautiful embankment and a children’s playground, and the ancient town of Kotor is attractive from an excursion point of view. But Herceg Novi, with its endless stairs, will be tiring for mothers with strollers, and besides, the city only has concrete beaches.
The best hotels in Montenegro for families with children
The modernization of the hotel base began not so long ago, so the hotel service is still inferior to the Turkish all-inclusive. The best hotels are located on the island of Sveti Stefan and in Budva, but here you also have the highest prices for holidays .
Most often, tourists stay in 3* hotels or rent private villas and apartments. True, for independent tourists there is a problem with places on the beach – at the height of the season, most of the coastline is occupied by hotel sun loungers, and there are practically no free places to relax.
We have selected hotels in Montenegro that are suitable for families with children – with good reviews from tourists and high ratings. They operate on an all-inclusive or full board basis, are located on the 1st or 2nd line and have a variety of entertainment for children.

Iberostar Bellevue 4*
Some of the best hotels in Montenegro for families with children in 2023 include the Iberostar Bellevue with all-inclusive meals. The reviews are wonderful.

In reviews of this hotel, tourists especially note the good cuisine, cheerful animation, excellent spa area, and strong Wi-Fi signal. It has its own sandy beach, which is carefully maintained. For adults – hammam, saunas, jacuzzi, heated pool. The service is excellent.
Tips and reviews from tourists
Montenegro is a beautiful country, and it would be unforgivable not to see the ancient fortresses of Budva and Kotor, the panorama of Lake Skadar and St. Stephen. Little tourists will be interested in visiting the Adventure Park on Mount Lovcen or the water park in Becici. For travel, it is better to rent a car, since bus service is poorly developed, and taxi prices rise sharply during the high season.
Since most of the beaches in Montenegro are pebbly, you should also worry about special shoes for your child. You also need to think about entertainment and toys; in Montenegro there is not much entertainment for children, and not every hotel has water parks and good playgrounds.
