How to connect to the Internet and choose a mobile connection in Greece? Where are Wi-Fi hotspots? What are the tariffs for communication services?
Communication in roaming
WiFi
Hotels and apartments in Greece have wireless Internet. You can also go online for free from McDonald’s and other fast food chains. If you urgently need the Internet, but do not have access to free Wi-Fi, send an SMS with the text “Wi-Fi” to 54350. The operator will debit 1.19€ from your mobile account and provide access to the network for 20 minutes.
Local mobile operators
Another way to access the Internet is to buy a SIM card from a local telecom operator.
- Cosmote is the operator with the best 4G coverage and high data transfer speeds. The cost of the starter package is 5 €, for 1 GB 5 € are deducted from the account. It is more profitable to pay for a 3 GB package for 15 days for 18 €
- Wind – coverage is available only in large cities. For 1€ you get 20 MB per day, but it is more profitable to connect a package of services for 8€, which includes 200 minutes of calls within Greece and abroad
- Vodafone – the operator provides a favorable International tariff: 0.22 € per minute of call and 0.04 € per SMS. For 2GB of internet, 20€ will be debited from your account
The starter pack of any of the Greek mobile operators is sold at certified points of sale, newsstands and at the airport. To purchase, present your passport and specify that you need a “prepaid” tariff.
