Hello everyone! I recently became a mother, my baby was born in Dubai. I’ll tell you how everything works here.

A disclaimer right away: this is my first birth, so I have nothing to compare it to. I am sharing what I have encountered myself. And you, young mothers, if you wish, tell us about your experience in the comments. That way we can compare.

– In Dubai, there is insurance medicine, so if you have insurance that covers childbirth, then there will be no financial problems. Otherwise, the pleasure will cost a pretty penny. In the hospital where I gave birth, they will charge you more than 4 thousand dollars for natural childbirth (2 days of stay), 7.6 thousand in case of a cesarean (3-4 days in the hospital). This is if everything is ok.

– You will have to pay for everything “extra”. For example, an epidural will cost another $400. And the above amounts do not include the actual pregnancy care, and that is still money-money-money. For every test, for every visit to the doctor, for every ultrasound… It’s better not to forget about insurance.

– To be fair: there are hospitals with more affordable prices, but the final amount will still be several thousand dollars. And if, God forbid, you need intensive care or something else, you can really go broke. I read a story about how one family of tourists “got” almost 30 thousand conventional… That’s how much they charged for an emergency cesarean section and the child’s stay in intensive care for 14 days. That’s how it is. So once again: it’s better to have insurance. Or a solid bank account.

– Of course, for such amounts you also get a certain level of comfort: an individual room (no rows of women in labor), meals according to the menu, all the necessary consumables (like hygiene products, creams, diapers, nappies, etc.).

– The choice of doctors is also impressive: there are specialists from just about any corner of the world. You can choose a doctor who will both monitor your pregnancy and deliver your baby. Of course, there are surprises, like what happened to us: my doctor from Lithuania, who I went to for all 9 months, was not in the country on the day X 🙂 So another doctor delivered me – a very positive, smiling Arab woman.

Paid $30,000 for the birth. Why do they charge so much money?
