Possible parking spots in Italy are marked with colored markings – blue, white or yellow lines. A personal car can only be parked on the white or blue line, and the fine is about 60 euros.Using Rome as an example, let’s look at the rules for parking a car in Italy:

White line – free

You can park your car for free on the white line, but in my experience it is very difficult to find a free space in such zones. The chances are comparable to winning the lottery.

When you still manage to find a place, it’s a really good day.

Sometimes free parking lots have restrictions on the maximum parking time, for example, 2 hours. To control, you need to put a piece of paper or a special watch under the glass, which will indicate the time of your arrival.

Blue line – paid

It is a little easier to find parking on the blue line, as it is paid. Tariffs depend on the distance from the center, but on average they are 1 euro per hour – they are always indicated next to the parking meter.

You will have the paid parking time stamped on your receipt and it must be placed in a visible place under the windshield.

Yellow line – special transport

The yellow line is reserved for certain categories of people, for example, disabled people or local residents, as well as special transport. Under no circumstances should tourists park on it.

Fines

The fine for incorrect or unpaid parking in Italy is about 60 euros. The amount varies depending on the region and the mood of the policeman, that is, it can be a little less or more.

Usually, when paying in the first 5 days after the violation, a 20-30% discount is provided.
