If safety is your number one priority in your destination, then Monaco is the perfect place to visit.

It is here that the authorities plan to be the first to issue firefighters with drones that support data transmission via 5G and are capable of broadcasting images from on-board cameras in ultra-high quality. Every third resident is a millionaire; there are more law enforcement officers per capita here than in any other country in the world.

A small principality, where the crime rate tends to zero, proudly welcomes tourists from all over the world and will surprise absolutely everyone.

Crime rate in Monaco, risk of robberies and assaults

There is no crime and this is true.

In fact, there is one law enforcement officer for every 68 people, one of the highest rates in the world.

Let us add that thefts are an extremely rare occurrence. This is, in particular, due to the fact that 400 surveillance cameras are installed on the territory of the state with an area of less than two square kilometers.

But! An occasion when you should be especially vigilant is Formula 1 Grand Prix Week . This event attracts many tourists, which makes the Principality extremely busy and the number of pickpockets increases noticeably on this day.

How to protect yourself and get rid of troubles?

  • There is no need to wave hefty wads of bills or leave gadgets and other valuables unattended.
  • Speaking of money, be careful, there are millions of counterfeit euros circulating that change hands every day. Before accepting cash, make sure it is valid.
  • Etiquette is one of the important attributes, therefore walking in swimsuits in public places is strictly prohibited, not counting the beach.
  • It is better to always have your ID with you. Police officers in uniform have the right to contact any passer-by or driver, conduct a search, check documents and residential addresses: and this is normal.
  • Smoking in public places is strictly prohibited and carries the risk of serious fines. Even the most “smoking” establishments – casinos – are no exception.
  • Smoking marijuana and hashish is a criminal offence, punishable by imprisonment from two months to one year in addition to a fine of 56 € to 1680 €.
  • It is advisable to exercise increased caution at the railway station in the northern part of the city – on Prince Pierre Avenue. Precisely because there are many travelers here, among whom there are scammers.
  • If we are talking about a crowd of tourists, then it is better to store valuables in a backpack rather than in a pocket.

Traffic situation in Monaco

This famous principality has more supercars per square meter than any other state.

But the roads are more difficult – their length is only 50 km. In addition, there are quite a lot of pedestrian areas and little parking.

Therefore, despite the ideal condition of the roads, owners of luxury cars, unfortunately, do not have enough space to drive on the territory of the state.

That’s why they violate it. For example, in 2017 alone, more than 20,000 fines were issued for parking in prohibited areas in Monaco, as well as 13,000 for failure to pay at the machine, and almost 3 more for parking under a “No Parking” sign.

You may ask why there is such a number of violations? Yes, because the availability of expensive transport on the roads is increasing every year! And, it is worth mentioning that video cameras are installed on almost every street.

Thus, from July 5 to August 31, 2019, the BeSafe Monaco association, which was created three years ago, began organizing a free shuttle bus to the port from 11 pm to 5 am. The goal is to avoid the temptation to drink and drive and get the driver home.

  • You will have to pay up to 600 € for such an offense
  • Failure to follow directions will result in 6 days to 1 month in prison
  • For lack of insurance – from 2250 to 9000 €

By the way, breathalyzers are available throughout Porto and the Larvotto areas, allowing you to check your alcohol level before traveling.

  • However, driving without a seat belt is not considered a violation, while in France it faces a fine of 135 €

The protection of peace is carried out by the highest ranks of the Monaco police. And this police force is recognized as one of the most modern and effective on our planet. The rule set by Prince Rainier is simple: “Security in Monaco must be absolute.”

Probability of terrorist attacks and military conflicts in the country

The threat of terrorism in Monaco can be described as low. Since 1990, not a single politically motivated terrorist attack has been recorded.
From the point of view of the authorities of the principality, emigration and immigration are at satisfactory levels.

Ethnic and intercultural conflicts have not been recorded in the state. The society is historically multinational; the tradition of peaceful coexistence of representatives of different cultures has long been strengthened in it. But when it comes to employment, the implementation of various social rights and other opportunities, citizens of the principality have priority.

In addition, according to Monaco’s laws, only citizens can vote in parliamentary elections. Considering the extremely complex procedure for obtaining citizenship, we can talk about the privileged position of Monegasques in comparison with representatives of other ethnic groups, Italians, French, British, Belgians and others.

There are no obvious prerequisites for a split on economic or territorial grounds. Among the social problems that cause certain concerns as potential sources of conflicts in society, one can name the influx of immigrants, although mainly wealthy citizens of Germany, France, Great Britain and other countries arrive here.

Sanitary and epidemiological situation in the country

According to the World Health Organization, mortality from communicable diseases, including infections and parasitic diseases, diseases characteristic of childhood, as well as birth injuries, lack of vitamins and minerals, was 50.1 people per 100 thousand inhabitants, for comparison: in Iceland – 39 .4, in Sierra Leone – 2,148.8.

The Principality has many pharmacies with qualified staff who can advise you on basic medical issues. If one closes, you will usually find a list of people working in the neighborhood posted on the door. On weekends and holidays there is an “on duty” branch. To find out the name of the open pharmacy and the doctor on duty, call: 116 117.

True, the cost of medicine in Monaco for those who come on vacation can be quite high. Therefore, to ensure that nothing interferes with your vacation, an insurance policy against accidents and medical expenses must be taken out in advance.

Probability of natural disasters in the country

The geographical position as a whole can be characterized as favorable, since mountain ranges protect most of the territory, population and economic complex of the country from a number of adverse atmospheric influences. Monaco is practically not susceptible to forest fires, which cause significant damage to the French Riviera in summer, as well as their consequences.
