Vienna Airport Schwechat (Flughafen Wien-Schwechat, code VIE) is located outside the city, approximately 18 km from it. Thanks to a well-connected transport network, getting to and from Vienna Airport is very easy.

By train

The CAT train is the fastest way to get from Vienna Airport to the city center, it goes non-stop in just 16 minutes! This way you will avoid traffic jams and stress. To find the train at the airport, follow the special green CAT signs. From the center of Vienna to the airport the train runs daily, every 30 minutes, from 5:36 am to 23:06 pm. In the opposite direction, from the airport to the center, a high-speed train runs daily, every half hour, from 6:09 a.m. to 11:39 p.m. A one-way ticket costs 11-12 euros, a round-trip ticket costs 19-21 euros. Children under 14 years old can travel for free. You can buy them in the arrival hall in special CAT machines, on the platform or on the website. Along with the express ticket, you can buy a 24, 48 and 72 hour pass for public transport.

By train

The most economical way to travel from the airport to Floridsdorf is the S7 train of the S-Bahn. You have to look carefully at the board and at the train; sometimes the train will only go as far as Wien Mitte. Travel time is 25-30 minutes, traffic interval is 30 minutes. Since Schwechat Airport and the city of Vienna are in different but adjacent tariff zones, you will need two one-way tickets for 2.20 euros, for a total of 4.40 euros. This will include two trips: one on the S7 train and the second on Vienna public transport to the desired stop. Children under 6 years old travel free on the S7 train. The ticket can be purchased at Terminal 3 of Schwechat Airport from Austrian Railways OBB machines or at the company’s service desks. You can also buy a ticket online on the OBB website in the ticket purchase section or before going down to the train platform.

By bus

  • The bus is a good option to get from Wien-Schwechat airport to the center, provided that it is not rush hour, otherwise you will have to get stuck in traffic. The bus stop is located near the arrivals hall. There are three routes of this carrier that will take you from Vienna Airport to the city center: Wien Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz. This route allows you to leave for Vienna at night. Buses from the airport depart at 1:20, 2:50, 4:50 and 5:20, during the day and in the evening – every 30 minutes until 00:20. The journey takes 20 minutes. There are also services from Morzinplatz every 30 minutes from 00:30 to 23:30.
  • Wien Donauzentrum (via VIC). From Vienna-Schwechat every hour from 7:10 to 20:10, back from 5:58 to 18:58. The journey takes 40 minutes.
  • Wien Westbahnhof. To the city every 30 minutes from 6:05 to 00:05, back – from 5:15 to 00:40. The journey will take about 40 minutes.

Tickets cost 8 euros one way and 13 euros both ways; children from 6 to 14 years old are 4 and 8 euros respectively, up to 6 years old – free. Tickets can be purchased on the official website, from vending machines at the airport, from the Austrian Railways ÖBB ticket office or from their vending machines, as well as from the driver.
